SHED sessions are guided practice sessions designed to help you build real musical skills through focused, hands-on repetition. Rather than trying to master a skill on your own or simply watch a pre-recorded video about it, you'll practice alongside me in real time.

Each session is given either a Build or Push focus. Build sessions emphasize slower, more deliberate work to strengthen your musical foundation, while Push sessions are designed to challenge your current comfort zone and expand what you can do. 

Whether you're working on ear training, improvisation, harmony, rhythm, comping, or technique, SHED is where knowledge becomes skill.

LAB sessions are where we put ideas into practice by applying them to real music. We'll take concepts from courses and SHED sessions and explore how they come to life inside jazz standards and real musical situations.

Like SHED, each LAB session is labeled with either a Build or Push focus. Some sessions reinforce fundamental applications at a comfortable pace, while others encourage you to stretch your skills in more demanding musical contexts.

Each month we'll take a deep dive into a single musical concept and explore it from the ground up.

Rather than covering dozens of unrelated topics, every Masterclass focuses on one framework, technique, or way of thinking that you can continue developing throughout the month in SHED and LAB sessions.

Some months that concept may also appear in additional live sessions. Other months, we'll explore entirely different topics alongside it. The Masterclass introduces one major idea... but it isn't a prerequisite for everything else happening that month.

You're more than welcome to come! These topics are not guitar-specific. Ear training, lyrical phrasing, melodic voicing, chord motion.

Just be aware that I can't help with the physicality of, or techniques for, other instruments.

If you do not play a harmonic instrument nor write write or arrange for ensembles, you may no be interested in our comping and harmony-based calls. However, it IS always possible to arpeggiate voicings. So that is up to you.

There is no required starting point. 

But the general idea is...

• SHED → build the skill.
• LAB → apply the skill to tunes.
• Masterclass → discover new ideas.

So I would encourage you to attend LAB calls only if you are also coming to the SHED calls, as you'll get more out of your time in LAB.

SHED is a great place to begin. So are our live Masterclasses. It just depends on your priorities.

Immediately upon registering, you'll be forwarded to your Resource Library where you will see all of the live meetups you registered for... Along with any courses you've purchased.

These meetups will be empty but will contain some helpful info. This is where we will archive the live calls and PDFs after we're done, so you can revisit them on your own schedule.

You'll also get a confirmation email letting you know your seat is officially reserved.

About an hour before going live, I'll send you an email with the zoom link and any PDF materials we'll be using.

When we're done, I'll edit the video file down and upload it into the archived area in your Resource Library where you will maintain access to enjoy as much as you like for the respective amount of days (7 days for SHED and LAB calls, 30 days for the live Masterclass).

No worries at all.

Individual SHED and LAB purchases include 7 days of access to the archive after the call is complete. And the live Masterclass includes 30 days. So even if you can't attend live, you can still grab a seat and simply enjoy the call after we're done when it's a better time for you.

Then you never need to worry about registering for anything, missing a registration, missing the call, or losing access to the archived calls.

If I mention that a particular call "Builds on" a particular course... It means we are working on the same concept and framework. And working through that course will help you get more out of the call. 

So it will be helpful, yes.
But no... It is not required. The live sessions are accessible without prior purchases.

If you've only been playing your instrument for a couple of months... These calls may not be the best starting point.

If you've been playing for a little while but are new to triads, improvisation, jazz, fusion, or simply working on skills that will help you elevate your musicianship beyond the standard approach... You might find exactly what you're looking for here.

Some of the sessions are going to be more beginner friendly though. Please be mindful of the "Build / Push" categories. You may want to avoid the Push vibe and start with "Build" calls or calls with no label.

I would also recommend you focus on calls during the first half of the month. Later in the month we get into polytonal concepts and upper structure triads. These can sometimes be a challenge for beginners. The "non-Push" calls earlier in the month will be the safest place to explore first.

This is one of the biggest advantages over prerecorded courses.

I generally spend a few of minutes at the end of each call to read through the zoom chatbox and see if there are any questions or issues that need to be addressed.

Yes! But it might be tough to spot it at first glance.

Weeks 1 and 2 are focused primarily on developing and applying skills for improvisation and comping.

Weeks 3 and 4 are elevating us up into the upper structure. Where we will explore "polytonal" harmonies, voicings, and improvisation techniques using upper structure triads. These ideas build on the work we do during weeks 1 and 2, but create a more 3-dimensional and sophisticated sound.

Then we have our Open Office Hours for members who have questions and need help. And finally at the end of the month, we wrap up with our live Masterclass to deep dive into a new framework, concept, or sound.

Once a call has happened, you can't purchase a seat to attend it live. And you want be able to get access to the recording as an individual purchase. I close registration the night before each call to ensure nobody registers last minute and then doesn't get the invite email with the zoom link.

So you can either wait until the following month to join us for that topic, or you can check out the SHED Pass and CLASS Pass, as these membership options include ongoing access to the entire archive of all of these calls.

If you see a red error message telling you the call is no longer available when you click "Add to Cart," it's either because the call has already happened or because registration for the call has already been closed down... Even if the call itself has not started yet.

Because these calls are live, I have to close registration before they begin to ensure that everyone who wants to attend receives the email with the zoom link to join us.

I close registration the night before the call at 11:59pm ET. Once it is closed, there is no way to join us live. However you can gain access to the archive by joining one of our membership options.
