Once we understand and can control the fundamentals of the Melodic Triads Approach (triads, quadratonics, and shell voicings), then we want to make sure we're learning to create fluency with our language inside of form. Sort of like learning words and grammar for a foreign language, and then being able to have a conversation based on a specific topic. This will help you develop and master your improvisation and comping in the context of tunes and bebop changes, get you off the real book, and get you standing on your own two feet musically.

Together, we will break down the three most important forms and chord progressions to master the jazz and bebop language - bird bluesrhythm changes, and cherokee. We will look at different tricks and strategies to help you understand these forms from a deeper yet more simplified place so you can create more freely within each. There is also a preliminary section, before we get into these three forms where we look at a few additional melodic triads strategies and tricks for creating bluesy and soulful phrases, as well as scalar and modal types of sounds using triads.

What Musicians Are Saying:

“After years of studying with many of the jazz legends of our time Jordan has taken all the knowledge he has acquired, reduced it to its essence, and developed it into his own personal system of approaching improvisation. I find his method absolutely refreshing and so much closer to how the great improvisers are thinking and practicing than the traditional chord/scale, university approach to teaching improvisation. It’s given me a whole new and fresh outlook on how to hear things and what to practice”

Tommy Howard

“Technical stuff such as sequences, scale practice, shape systems... there are so many books out there. But I really like that [Jordan] puts it on a much more phenomenological area of expertise, so you get to understand what sound means, emotionally. To me that's much better than all of these books and methods you find all over the internet. This is much more personal and to the core of what music is. [Jordan] really helped me open up a new world, and we're continuing to explore that. I can highly recommend Jordan.”

Claus Strom

“Jordan Klemons is an agile, forward thinking guitarist, fluent in the language of Jim Hall and John Scofield. His solos bristle with intense rhythmic drive and melodic invention.”

Brad Shepik

“[Jordan] has a beautiful and clear way of explaining and organizing important things related to music, jazz, and guitar. Do yourself a favor and dig into [Melodic Triads].”

Peter Bernstein
