Obviously, I am a guitar player. And some of the concepts and chord charts are guitar specific. So the course is designed from the guitar perspective. However I have worked with piano players, singers, trumpet and sax players, and bass players. The majority of the concepts I present can be used by any melodic instrument for improv and any harmonic instrument for chords and voicings... you just might have to get a little creative.

As for what level of playing is this course designed for? It is definitely NOT meant to act as an intro to jazz program. I don't cover any basic beginner jazz theory 101... and you will get much more out of the course if you already know your basic theory, can play your basic diatonic scales, and have at least attempted to play through a couple of standards and a jazz blues. 

However there's no need to be a professional or to wait until you're already at an advanced level. If you already are an advanced hobbyist or gigging professional... you'll learn to refine your approach and take it to a level you might have assumed would require another 50 years to reach. If you're still in the intermediate level you'll learn how to tap into the level of sophistication, intention, and control you've been craving since you started playing... fast!

I began teaching online full-time in 2016 when my medical issues hit (years before covid mixed up the music education world). At the time, I was too sick to be around other people in person, so I moved everything online and have been here ever since.

Prior to that I had been teaching music professionally for about two decades. I was an adjunct instructor in the jazz departments at New York University and Fordham University and have guest lectured at multiple schools around the world including a yearly lecture I continue to give to the incoming freshman class at NYU.

I've performed a handful of times at The Blue Note, Zinc Bar, ShapeShifter, and a variety of other famous NYC jazz clubs. Outside the city, I recorded and toured with a few groups over the decades and have played all around the country. Most notably I performed twice at the Bonnaroo Music Festival, but I've played everywhere from Boston down to Miami, to Chicago and Colorado, and all the way out to California where I played The Joshua Tree Music Festival with a 12 piece afrobeat orchestra I used to be a member of back when I was a wee youngin, willing to sleep next to 10 stanky other dudes on the floor in a single hotel room and eat half my meals out of gas stations 😂🤦🏻‍♂️
