The Overview: 5 Steps To Melodic Improvisation

When you're done working through the steps I lay out for you in the course...

  • You will be improvising authentic traditional, gypsy, bebop, and modern jazz vocabulary without thinking about scales, riffs, chord tone running, outlining changes, or modes
  • You will be able to look at a new tune in the real book or a chart at a jam session or gig and be able to hang and improvise over the changes and stay in the moment
  • You will understand how triads form the strongest organizational system for creating melody and will be taking advantage of triads to spontaneously create phrases in any situation
  • You will see the big picture of how the different puzzle pieces of the Melodic Triad approach fit together so you can continue growing, evolving, and exploring harmony and melody without ever falling into another rut

To help you accomplish all of this, I put together this course with seven different video lessons, pdfs (standard notation and guitar tab), etudes, multiple playing examples over a Bb blues, and example riffs over a V7-I progression.

While this course is primarily designed to help you with learning to create single-note melody, I do include a little bit of melodic triad theory - with voicings - to show how we can take these ideas and begin develop harmony, comping, and chord melody with them as well.

What People Are Saying:

After years of studying with many of the jazz legends of our time, Jordan has taken all the knowledge he has acquired, reduced it to its essence, and developed it into his own personal system of approaching improvisation. I find his method absolutely refreshing and so much closer to how the great improvisers are thinking and practicing than the traditional chord/scale, university approach to teaching improvisation. It's given me a whole new and fresh outlook on how to hear things and what to practice. Highly recommend checking his stuff out.

Tommy Howard

Jordan Klemons is an agile, forward thinking guitarist, fluent in the language of Jim Hall and John Scofield. His solos bristle with intense rhythmic drive and melodic invention. [His album, This City] sounds great - every track is its own world and the flow from beginning to end tells a story. Deep writing and arrangements and guitar playing - it's a bold statement!

Brad Shepik

Jordan Klemons is a great guitarist with unlimited potential. His prodigious technique is never an end in itself but instead the means to musical expression. He is a musician who looks to the past for inspiration and influence yet has a modern conception; he is someone to look out and listen for!
